12 Jul Travel Diary: Prague

Prague really stole my heart in a completely cheesy way. All the things that I thought wouldn’t particularly move me about Prague did. All the old buildings, castles, bridges, towers etc I had decided would be of no interest to me given that I had seen them all in epic pictures in books and on Google blindsided me and left me completely in love with Prague. Kind of like when a friendzoned boy surprises you by escaping from the friendzone area by charming the pants off you. I was charmed to say the least.

The Air BnB apartment we were staying in was literally around the corner from Old Town Square, one of two mainsquares in Prague. Filled with tourists at every hour of the day to photograph and visit Tyn Church, The Astronomical Clock, Old Town Hall Tower, St Nicholas Church and the Jan Hus statue which sits at the centre of the square, Old Town Square is really magnificently beautiful, but hard to appreciate when filled with masses of people. Regardless it is still better on all counts than visiting Wenceslas Square – the other main square in Prague – which just had a very “all the things one doesn’t enjoy about Times Square in New York City” feel about it.Besides all the beautiful tourist attractions (which you can Google yourself), Prague continued to court me with its reasonably priced but crazy delicious cuisine, intense beer drinking culture, amazing wine and great service. In my post on how I booked this trip to Europe, I mentioned that one of the pros of booking with Airbnb was that you get some really great local insiders tips of places to dine and drink from hosts. Our phenomenal eating and drinking experiencing, which I will write about in my next post (because Tumi Mohale, insists that this post is too long) has to be completely credited to our hosts Monika and Jaroslav because we went to almost every single one of their recommended spots and we were not disappointed.
